This is a beautiful and portable guide to the fungi of New England written by local author and mycologist Lawrence Millman. It covers both the common and unusual mushrooms we will find in our own backyards and nearby woods. The book is designed to help the reader with identification. It is written in non-technical language, illustrated clearly, and organized by what the mushrooms look like (with gills or without) and where they grow (on the ground or on wood).
Lawrence Millman has done mycological work around the world and also at Mass Audubon's Wachusett Meadow Wildlife Sanctuary. His current inventory there numbers 490 species.
